Holiday in Amsterdam - May 2007

We arrived in Amsterdam on Sunday evening. We were trying to find the best way to get to the hotel, and one of the ladies at I amsterdam suggested we could take a bus. This must be the first city where I have actually just "taken a bus" in an unfamiliar place, and not gotten lost finding the hotel. To be sure, there have been other places where we took a cab, and still got lost!

Sunday evening was spent checking into the hotel, and looking for somewhere to eat. As we were both unfamiliar with the city, and with special meal requirements, Mehul suggested going online to get some ideas on restaurants available. However, I was eager to get out before sunset (which was rather late, since it was summer, but I didn't think about that). So, as I was bugging him to "go out and walk around to look for something", he retorted with "Do you think this is Holland Village - where we can just walk out and find lots of restaurants?"

Well, he was later to mince his words - we walked out to Leidseplein, and found streets lined with restaurants! We eventually decided on Maoz Vegetarian which is actually a chain of fast-food falafel bars. I really enjoyed it, especially given that we can't get good falafel in Singapore.

The next few days were extremely eventful and enjoyable:
