Tonle Sap Lake
On Monday afternoon, Bo met us and took us to Chhong Kneas, where we could get a boat ride out onto the Tonle Sap Lake. The floating village of Chhong Kneas is rather interesting - houses are built on flat barges floating on the lake, and would rise and fall with the tide.
Floating community
It was an entire community, with homes, a school, factories, shops and even a church. ALL floating! The floating grocery store was a sampan carrying goods of all sorts. The young children played in the water, floating in a tub and using their hands to paddle around.
Submerged forests
We stopped at a fish farm, and later also at the Gecko Environmental Center. Near the coast were submerged forests. Essentially, the trees had only their leaves exposed! We convinced our skipper to take the boat into the "forest" and it was rather cool coming up close to the trees.
